STUDY ABROAD IN MONTPELLIER, FRANCE

INTERNSHIP

While studying in Montpellier, France, I had the opportunity to complete two internships. The first internship was with Les Aramons, a residence home for people who are handicapped at a center, and the second internship was with Gammes Alizée, a community center for refugees who migrated from the Maghreb region in Northern Africa. Through my internships, I was able to see a completely different aspect of France and create meaningful relationships through these opportunities. Before leaving to study abroad, I was fully expecting to be French Dr. Lily and intern in a hospital or clinical setting. After arriving and being assigned my internship position, I had to adjust my mindset and find the importance of  caring for people in a non-clinical role like I had thought I would be in. My internships at Les Aramons and Gammes Alizée changed my perspective on healthcare and the ways in which healthcare providers can have roles beyond assisting with immediate care.
