LINGUISTIC ARTIFACTS
FRENCH LITERATURE
The purpose of this assignment was to think creatively and critically about life lessons found in old fairy tales and folklore. I chose to analyze the story of Little Red Riding Hood and how misogyny is prevalent in the story and in our society. The male wolf in the story acts as the “puppet master” for women, symbolizing how men in our society believe they are smarter, wiser, and can control women. This assignment allowed me to use critical and analytical thinking skills in French, while also providing me with the opportunity to hone my grammar and tense skills. Understanding the origin of this presumed childrens’ tale allowed me to further understand the presence of this specific inequality that existed and still exists, all while learning and utilizing specific analytic vocabulary.
STUDY ABROAD INTERNSHIP COURSE
During my semester abroad, I had the opportunity to hold health internship positions at two different locations in Montpellier, France. After each week, students that had internships were asked to write a reflection paper on our observations and experiences, as well as how the French workforce, or in this case health setting, compared to an American work setting. This specific paper is a reflection from my first two weeks of both of my internships. Writing these reflections provided me with feedback for my French writing skills which included grammar and writing in different tenses (présent, imparfait, passé composé, futur simple, and more). This also gave me the opportunity to reflect on what kind of impact I, as an intern, had in my role and how healthcare differed so much between France and the United States.
