HEALTH SCIENCE ARTIFACTS
DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH BEHAVIOR
For this assignment, I researched diet habits for Latin American refugees in the United States for a literature review. Upon researching and writing, I was able to determine eating trends and habits among Latin American refugees. I linked causes for these diet trends with the Health Belief Model and the Transtheoretical Model to discover why specific health behaviors occur and how this is all connected to the social determinants of health. The literature review, furthermore, looked at how to create successful intervention for unhealthy dieting habits among the specific population. This assignment consisted of not only utilizing my research skills, but also an opportunity to understand how social determinants of health and health behavior are associated with one another.
STUDY ABROAD INTERNSHIP COURSE
For this assignment, I researched ways in which lifestyles in France and the United States differed and their effects on public health. As I researched this topic, I found common trends relating to access to affordable and healthy food options in the United States. There is a higher prevalence of diseases, including obesity, due to the lack of access to produce and other options aside from fast food companies. This assignment gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into how lifestyle intertwines greatly with health behavior. Health behavior is highly influenced by culture and environment, so it was interesting to do research on two countries in different continents to look at similarities and differences.
